WATERCOLOUR DAY COURSES JUNE & JULY 2010
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Absolute Beginners Sat/Sun 19th & 20th June
Both
of the beginner’s day courses are intended for complete beginners and
would also be perfect for people who have experienced frustration with
their first attempts in watercolour. No previous experience of
watercolour painting is assumed. Sundays’ workshop will usefully
lead on from Saturday’s, but the basics of brushes, papers and paints
will be discussed and covered on both days.
Following
several enjoyable painting exercises on each of the days, including
some painting demonstration by Cecil, we will go on to create a
finished watercolour. Bockingford watercolour paper will be included in
the booking fee but please bring other types of watercolour paper or
painting pads or blocks, if you wish. Some advice as to useful
materials to bring can be found by following this link:

Some Experience (intended for non-beginners)
‘Just three colours’ Saturday July 3rd
It is amazing how much can be done painting with only three colours and how this will lead to a unity and strength in your painting. We will work practically, exploring this principle in watercolour. As the day goes on we may choose to include one or two more colours.
Venice Sunday July 4th
I have been inspired by Venice for many years and have painted many aspects of this fabulous city using watercolour. In this course we’ll examine particular paintings, reproducing one of these in watercolour, so as to understand how the artist has built the composition from start to finish
Sunsets Saturday July 17
Amongst the most beautiful events thrown up by nature, sunsets have often featured as the main subject for painters. In spite of their complex appearance it is possible to recreate their majesty using watercolour inventively. We’ll explore some useful principals for creating such skies.
Water Sunday July18th
Water is a captivating element capable of adding fascination to a painting that might otherwise lack interest. In this workshop we will give special attention to the handling of water and practically explore its uses in watercolour.
Painting days may be booked singly or as a pair.
